Post 8: My Verse

 I have no idea what my verse would be. If I have one, then I think my verse will be successful in life. Most of us don't born with a rich, successful, and educated family. It started with a poor family first, then it will start building up from low income to rich. My grandparents and parents worked hard to earned money; tried to move to the USA from out of the country. My parents want me to go to college to get an engineering degree to make money to not worry too much in the future. I have to work very hard and earn it.

    I think a lot of people aim to be successful in life especially those of lower class. I wasn't poor but in my house we only were able to get by; there wasn't much room for extra luxuries. Being the first of my mom's children to go to college, I want her to be able to stress less and I also don't want to live like how she has to.

    We all have to start somewhere and I think it's great that you have a foundation to work with. You understand that you must work hard to better yourself in the future as well as help your family stress less.

Post 14: 19th vs 21st Century Women in America

 In the 19th century, all women were housewives who had to take care of children and clean the house while the husband had gone to work to make money. For example, Nora never goes to college or gets a job because of 19th gender norms. Women were untreated fair and not enough freedom. All she does was cleaning the house and take care of the children, but she was very bored at home doing nothing. In the 21st century, women had the same equal right as men. Both women and men can take care of children and cleaning the house as a family. Women get a job and go to college to get an education.

Post 5: Psychology of "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas"

 This story, "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas," takes place at the Festival of Summer in Omelas which people who are celebrating and be happy to dance around. They sacrificed an innocent child over partying and food. In the first paragraph, it said that "[c]hildren dodged in and out, their high calls rising like the swallows' crossing flights over the music and the singing" (Le Guin). The people of Omelas were to live in a utopia; they want to be happy people. I felt terrible for the children because it was untreated fair and disrespectful. Le Guin is critiquing about "[h]appiness is based on a just discrimination of what is necessary, what is neither necessary nor destructive, and what is destructive." In other words, it is saying that happiness predicated on simple discrimination of what's necessary, what's neither essential nor harmful, and what's harmful.
