Post 10: Image

 If I would to describe my life, then it will be a volcano. First, at the bottom, I am learning nothing at school and places. Next, as the volcano rising up, I'm learning better and increasing more knowledge in each subject in school. Finally, when the volcano explodes up to the sky, I'm enjoying exploring more places and things such as universities, zoos, aquariums, mountains, restaurants, etc. This image is may or may not be similar to the poem, "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time." The volcano is almost similar to "The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun, The higher he's a-getting" (Herrick line 5-6).

    I find your life image to be insightful because I would not have thought about a volcano being this way. From my perspective, it would have represented chaos or disruption in one's life. Your perspective is definitely different from mine and probably most others.

    Your life as a volcano is great way to describe your personality. You are building up and learning but once you blow, that's when you let loose all the knowledge you have attained.

Post 14: 19th vs 21st Century Women in America

 In the 19th century, all women were housewives who had to take care of children and clean the house while the husband had gone to work to make money. For example, Nora never goes to college or gets a job because of 19th gender norms. Women were untreated fair and not enough freedom. All she does was cleaning the house and take care of the children, but she was very bored at home doing nothing. In the 21st century, women had the same equal right as men. Both women and men can take care of children and cleaning the house as a family. Women get a job and go to college to get an education.

Post 5: Psychology of "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas"

 This story, "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas," takes place at the Festival of Summer in Omelas which people who are celebrating and be happy to dance around. They sacrificed an innocent child over partying and food. In the first paragraph, it said that "[c]hildren dodged in and out, their high calls rising like the swallows' crossing flights over the music and the singing" (Le Guin). The people of Omelas were to live in a utopia; they want to be happy people. I felt terrible for the children because it was untreated fair and disrespectful. Le Guin is critiquing about "[h]appiness is based on a just discrimination of what is necessary, what is neither necessary nor destructive, and what is destructive." In other words, it is saying that happiness predicated on simple discrimination of what's necessary, what's neither essential nor harmful, and what's harmful.
